9LAN - Launch! (Enrichment programme)
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Ms R. Taigel.
Students who have been identified through our Enrichment Programme assessment session and / or via our Gifted & Talented identification process will be invited to take part in Launch - our Problem Based Learning module.
This course offers the opportunity for students to gain meaningful, relevant connection and authenticity from their learning. The programme would suit students who have a strong creative passion and / or love of learning, are curious about the world and like to challenge assumptions and the status quo. They will also ideally already demonstrate some self management skills.
Students will develop resilience, determination, problem solving skills, communication and collaboration skills, citizenship skills both online and in-person, and creative skills through their commitment to complete this course. The development of a carefully designed and well-structured personal project will be a challenge for all students, but also extremely rewarding. Students will identify real-world problems and use strategies and frameworks, such as design thinking, to come up with solutions in project form. Completing a personal project contextualised in an area that the student themselves has identified as important to them will mean that they gain at least as much knowledge as they would in a traditional learning setting, while discovering, developing and enhancing the more intangible skills which are often peripheral in traditional learning contexts.
The real benefit of this course is the development of employable skills; the key competencies or 21st Century Capabilities, which are integrated throughout whole process. It is the development of these personal skills that will be the point of difference for students in future employment opportunities or the catalyst for future innovation or entrepreneurial pursuits.
