10ENGAST - Core English: Adapt - Survive - Thrive
Course Description
Overview
In this module, we will explore through project-based learning the ways that living things adapt in response to changing situations or environments. We will investigate adaptations of animals and plants, and then observe and analyse the ways people change their behaviours and values in survival situations. Finally, we will develop our understanding of how we can survive and thrive in our changing world.
First Half Year
In the first half year module, we will be reading, listening to and viewing a wide range of text types, including scientific explanations, graphic texts, young adult fiction novels, and films.
Second Half Year
In the second half year module, we will be creating our own fictional world, including the environmental features and characters who live there, as well as the life-threatening aspects of the world and how the characters have adapted to survive and thrive. This module will involve compiling a portfolio of written, visual and dramatic pieces to communicate our ideas to a range of audiences.
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
A personal laptop is strongly encouraged for all class learning and assessment work.
