Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Miss T. Harvey.
Overview
Do you feel like your opinions are taken seriously? Have you ever wondered why we believe what certain people tell us without question? Why are some people able to get others to stop and listen?
This module will look at why we believe and trust certain people, and why we doubt others. Often these assumptions are based on beliefs we have about people that are not at all true.
First Half Year
In the first half year module, you will study a range of fiction and non-fiction stories that focus on how people have used their voices to create change. You will compare and contrast the values and beliefs of people who hold power and people who use their voices for change. You will further examine those beliefs to figure out how to listen and how to be heard through reading, viewing and listening to a range of texts.
Second Half Year
In the second half year module, you will look at how you can craft words to make sure that you're heard by the right people. You will learn how to use existing beliefs and stereotypes in our culture to capture an audience. By doing so, you will explore how to change who holds the power of voice in our society.
