Course Description

This course provides an introduction to events of the 20th Century and their significance for Aotearoa. The theme for the year is conflict, which will include a study of New Zealand’s involvement in World War II and the emergence of the Cold War. Our next topic examines the historical debate around the decision to use the atomic bomb against Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Should the USA have dropped the bomb? We also examine post-war counterculture and New Zealand's own nuclear-free movement during the Nuclear Age. Students will develop skills of inquiry, comprehension, formal writing and communication.

Achievement in Year 10 Social Studies and English literacy assessments.
