2LAW - Level 2 Legal Studies

Course Description

This course covers concepts of law and justice, law-making processes, systems of government including voting, litigation and disputes resolution and crime. It encourages students to think about current issues in the world and develop their opinions. 

Course Overview

Term 1
Students will learn about Concepts of Justice and Concepts of Law. They will be able to describe different justice types and learn about concepts like Crime and Negligence. They will learn to develop their opinions and relate content learned to legal cases and current news events.

Term 2
Students will gain an understanding of how laws are made and changed in New Zealand by looking at parliamentary processes and recent law changes. They will also learn how the New Zealand voting systems works and look into how political parties operate.

Term 3
Students will learn how civil disputes can be resolved through legal systems such as mediation and negotiation and how someone is processed through the court system from being arrested through to their trial. They will also get an understanding of how the New Zealand Police operate and job roles within the Police.

Term 4
Students will do a focus on Crime and what causes people to commit crime.
