3MUS - Level 3 Music

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Miss K. Mackenzie.

Students wishing to engage in music at the highest level will find a multitude of opportunities in the Level 3 course. Students choose a personalised course from a range of disciplines including composition, song writing, solo and group performance, music research, analysis, theory and arrangement.

To achieve at the highest level students are required to have significant prior experience on an instrument or as a vocalist. Students may work across levels constructing individual pathways depending on musical interests and abilities.

Recommended Prior Learning

Level 2 Music or the equivalent theoretical and practical experience.

Students who do not meet the criteria should contact Ms Kay MacKenzie for course consideration.

Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

External instrumental/theory exams (if applicable)
Students benefit from having access to music technology (such as Sibelius or Ableton) on their personal computer.

Assessment Information

NCEA Level 3 Music allows students to choose a course from over 40 credits. Standards available include those listed above as well as:

Second instrument study
Analysis of a music work
Composition of 3 pieces of music
Creating two arrangements
Research of a music topic

You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.
