Course Description Recommended Prior Learning

Interview with the teacher in charge.


This course helps support student's transition into the workforce. Students will be on a weekly work placement for a minimum of one term. This is an opportunity for students to explore a career pathway of their choice.

Set unit standards will be provided, located from Industry Training Organisations, which is relevant to the learners workplace. Possible outcomes are; apprenticeships, on-the-job training and developing work-ready skills. 

Gateway students already know what career they wish to explore and are willing to be placed out in the community with a business, on a work placement.

- Suitable for students aiming for an apprenticeship or employment during 2023 or the following year

- Students must be ‘work ready’ i.e. positive attitude and willing to be engaged

- Capable of working independently in order to achieve 20 industry credits

- Be prepared to miss one day a week of school for at least one term

- Be able to catch up on other subjects independently or by using Gateway classroom time

- Can take Gateway ‘off-line’ which means outside of the school timetable (an extra subject)

- You can't take both Gateway and Trades Academy

- It is advised you do not take both 2GAT and 2PW.

Assessment Information

Students will also be offered extra unit standards on top of credits below, depending on their work placement. Example; First Aid x 4 credits, SafetynAction x8 credits, MITO x23 credit and Service IQ x20 credits.
