Course Description Recommended Prior Learning

Interview with teacher in charge to discuss Trade Academy course and its suitability.


Student will attend Top of the South Trades Academy (Te Pūkenga NMIT or Whenua Iti based) to focus on learning anything from Mechanical Engineering, Hairdressing, Health & Support Services, Emergency & Response and Manaaki Tāpoi. Students will be attending these courses once a week or in blocks and offered between 18-22 credits. 

Classroom time will be used to work on school subjects, learners have missed, while at NMIT or Whenua Iti, with Core Generic standards offered.

- Suitable for students aiming to gain industry knowledge, explore a career option and experience tertiary study

- Students need to be motivated to catch up on other subjects when supervised in the Trades Academy class  

- Free courses which includes transportation provided to and from the relevant campus

- You can't take both Trades Academy and Gateway

- Your application process is online and will require an interview with teacher in charge
