2SENG - Level 2 English Studies

Course Description

This is a supported English course in which students will be assessed through a range of internal achievement standard assessments. Teachers will offer students a range of learning contexts and assessment opportunities tailored to individual and class learning skills.

Students will explore visual, oral and written texts and contexts from Aotearoa and other parts of the world. Learning will focus on a range of aspects, ideas and perspectives, including mātauranga Māori and aspects connected to te ao Māori. They will closely analyse features of visual, written and/or oral texts, make connections between texts and learn to communicate their analysis in formal responses. Students will also develop formal writing skills through a range of authentic and practical writing contexts.

Students wanting to progress in Year 13 to the Level 3 Academic English course from Level 2 English Studies may be able to do so in consultation with the Head of English. A strong achievement record will support this.

Recommended Prior Learning

Entry to the course will be based on all results produced in Year 11 English and will be on the advice of each student's English teacher. Students may select this as a preferred option as an indicator of interest to their teachers.

Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

A personal laptop is strongly encouraged for all class learning and assessment work.

Pathway

This course supports learning towards all career pathways as the course is focused on critical thinking, analytical reading, writing in various forms, and effective communication.
