Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Miss K. Mackenzie.
This course covers:
- Solo Performance
- Second Instrument Performance (optional)
- Group Performance
- Instrumentation (Orchestrating a piano piece for an instrumental ensemble) and Composition
- Listening Skills, Score reading and Research
The diverse nature of the course allows students to focus on their strengths and develop overall musical literacy.
This course offers a large number of credits and students are able to choose a course that suits their strengths.
Students taking this course should enroll in lessons on their chosen instrument. These are available through the school's music programme.
Recommended Prior Learning
Level 1 Music or the equivalent theoretical and practical skills.
Students who do not meet the criteria above should contact Ms Kay MacKenzie for course consideration.

NCEA Level 2 Music allows students to choose a course from over 40 credits. Standards available include those listed above as well as:Second instrument study
Analysis of two contrasting music works
Research of a New Zealand music topic
Credit Information
You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.
