2AENG Course Description Recommended Prior LearningEntry to the course will be based on all results produced in Year 11 English and will be on the advice of each student's English teacher. Students may select this as a preferred option as an indicator of interest to their teachers.
Students will explore texts and contexts from Aotearoa and other parts of the world, focusing on a range of ideas and perspectives, including aspects from mātauranga Māori and te ao Māori essential to the study of English in Aoteoroa. They will closely analyse features of visual, written and/or oral texts, make connections between texts and learn to communicate their analysis in formal written responses. Students will develop creative and formal writing skills through a range of authentic writing contexts, with the possibility of having their writing published in the senior English writing journal.
This is an academic course in which students will be assessed through a combination of internal and external achievement standard assessments and is an important course for developing academic writing skills towards gaining the literacy credits required for university entrance.
