Sociology is the study of people, societies and social groups. The aim of Sociology is to understand and explain aspects of social behaviour and relationships. In Year 12 Sociology, we cover the theme of Sport and Leisure. Topics covered include: 

An introduction to sociological theory and how it can be applied to sport and leisure

Gender in sport - Body building as a challenge to femininity, how female athletes are depicted in the media, sex-testing at the Olympics, trans athletes

Football hooliganism as a subculture and the growing links between the far right and hooligans

The development of leisure and leisure activities such as theme parks, malls and gaming

Research methods - carrying out research into the leisure habits of your peers
