Course Description Recommended Prior Learning

L1 Workshop Engineering.


Students will learn specialised workshop engineering knowledge and skills that will give them the capabilities to produce advanced outcomes. In the first project students will learn how to accurately use a range of marking out tools by either making a one-handed bottle opener or a project of their choice. In the second project students will implement advanced procedures to produce a motorcycle jack stand or a project of their choice.  Finally, students will learn to measure with a high level of accuracy by either completing a project of their choice or manufacturing a handheld impact driver.


Course Overview

Term 1
Marking out skills will be taught as students markout, cut and shape the 'one-handed bottle opener'. Filing and finishing skills will also be covered.

Term 2
Welding and fabrication skills will be covered and assessed as students build the motobike stand.

Term 3
Precision measuring and machining skill will be covered and assessed as students build the motorbike stand.

Term 4
Written theory assignment 'Demonstrate understanding of advanced concepts related to machines'. This will be an extension activity for those who have completed all other assessments
